History-Makers Stellies Qualify For Confed Cup Last 8

Stellenbosch FC qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals for the first time after defeating Stade Malien Bamako 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Steve Barker recalled Ashley Cupido, Brian Onyango and Genino Palace following the loss to Kaizer Chiefs in Betway Premiership action during the week.

The Cape Winelands outfit, however, have won their last two Confederation Cup clashes, which has boosted their quarter-final hopes as leaders RS Berkane have already qualified for the last eight.

The game got off to a lively start at both ends of the pitch, with Devin Titus going close with a powerful strike, signalling their intent early in the contest.

The home side, who were playing behind closed doors, got the opening goal after 30 minutes when full-back Fawaaz Basadien confidently converted from the penalty spot.

Barker's charges were able to double their advantage six minutes before the halftime break as Basadien turned provider to pick out Jayden Adams, who nodded home from close range.

The men from Mali could have pulled one back with ten minutes left on the clock but Siaka Diaby squandered a glorious chance firing wide of the mark from close rang after getting on the end of
