Benni McCarthy, the former Manchester United forward's coach and South African football icon, has emerged as a potential candidate for the role of head coach of the Kenya national football team.

This development was confirmed by Patrick Korir, the CEO of the Kenya Football Federation (KFF), who stated that the process of selecting a new coach is ongoing.

McCarthy, through his agent Rob Moore, has officially applied for the position, joining a pool of nearly 20 candidates under consideration.

The Kenya national team is looking to replace Turkish coach Engin Firat, who recently departed. Korir mentioned that the technical committee is still evaluating all applications to find the most suitable candidate.

"I will wait until they reach my office with their preferred candidate, once the process is complete," Korir told Alqahera News.

McCarthy has built a promising coaching career, particularly with Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC in South Africa, and his pedigree as a former player for top clubs like Ajax and Manchester United adds to his appeal.

If appointed, he will face the challenge of guiding the Harambee Stars to greater success in African football, a task that has eluded the team in recent years. Fans and experts alike are eagerly awaiting the KFF's decision, which could be a turning point for Kenyan football.
