Kaizer Chiefs struck in the dying stage of the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy on Monday afternoon.

Betway Premiership

Result: TS Galaxy 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 16 December 2024

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Chiefs were without Gaston Sirino in the squad, as they made three changes from their defeat against Polokwane City, with goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, Reeve Frosler and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe brought in.

Amakhosi had an erratic start as they were pressed high by Galaxy and could not get out of their own half.

Nasreddine Nabi's charges only started to attack after the water break as on the half-hour mark Ashley Du Preez had a big chance after he beat the offside trap to go through on goal but he hit the side-netting, one-on-one with goalkeeper Ira Tape.

The Glamour Boys were then punished at the other end ten minutes before the half-time interval, after Samukelo Kabini found the back of the net with a free header from a corner.

The visitors continued to have nervy moments towards the end of the first stanza as they could not combine and went to the interval with a 1-0 deficit.

Nabi tried to turn the game around with a triple attacking change at half-time, as Mfundo Vilakazi, Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro were introduced.

The changes gave Chiefs new energy and Chivaviro had a chance to level matters on the hour-mark after having a sight of goal but his shock was crucially blocked.

Amakhosi continued to increase the urgency in attack and on 73 minutes Vilakazi also had a sight of goal after he cut in the box but his strike was also blocked by Mpho Mvela before reaching Tape.

The Soweto giants could not get the momentum in the dying minutes as they struggled to combine and Galaxy could deal well with their attacks.

However, Chivaviro levelled matters for Chiefs in added time with a finish over the line after Happy Mashiane's corner caused all sorts of problems in the box, but there was no more time as the game ended all square.

Amakhosi remained in ninth spot on the table while Galaxy jumped up to 11th.
