The story

The 22-year-old striker has been a bright spark in what's been a gloomy period for the struggling Richards Bay, who parted ways with Brandon Truter after their loss to Kaizer Chiefs.

In Richards Bay's heavy defeats last week, losing 2-1 away to the Glamour Boys and 3-1 at home to AmaZulu, Mbuthuma scored the consolation goals at the same time in both matches.

The hardworking forward, who's already caught the attention of Hugo Broos after his being picked in the preliminary squad for October's AFCON qualifiers, will hope to kick on from his confidence-boosting goals.

Natal Rich Boyz's interim co-coach, Ronnie Gabriel believes Mbuthuma has the potential to be in and amongst the Betway Premiership's top goal scorers.

"From the beginning of the season, he's shown good moments. He's been showing the ability to be successful in this league. We've been patient with him, we believe in him and then this week, he scores two goals," noted coach Gabriel, who firmly believes in Mbuthuma's talent.

"We are not hopeful, we believe that he will push on from here. He will be able to because he's definitely a 10-goal plus striker, per season. He's got the ability, he's got the goal scoring instincts, so it's possible that he can go on to reach 10 goals this season," added Gabriel.
