Ghana Boss Reacts To Resignation Calls After AFCON Failure

Ghana Boss Reacts To Resignation Calls After AFCON Failure

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has hit back at claims that he should resign.

Ghana's head coach has reacted to calls for him to resign after the Black Stars failed to qualify for their first Africa Cup of Nations in two decades.

It has been a catastrophic qualification campaign for the four-time African champions. In a group where the West Africans were the highest-ranked nation, they failed to register a single victory, finishing at the bottom of Group K.

The person who has borne the brunt of much of the Ghanaian public's criticism is head coach Otto Addo. On Monday evening, Niger scored a stoppage-time winner to claim a 2-1 victory in Accra, further compounding the African giants' woes.

The outcome of the match intensified calls for the 49-year-old to step down as Black Stars head coach, but the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach has made it clear that he has no intention of resigning.

"I'm not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I'd never have become a player or even a coach," Addo said during his post-match press conference, as per GhanaSoccerNet.

"If you know where I have come from as a person to arrive at this job, you won't even ask about resignation.

"People shouting and telling me to resign can't affect me."
