Paraguay will welcome Argentina to the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion this Thursday for their eagerly anticipated Matchday 11 clash.

While the fixture might not carry significant historical weight, a controversial ruling from the Paraguay Football Association has added a layer of intrigue to the encounter.

In an unexpected move, Fernando Villasboa, the director of football for Paraguay, has announced that fans wearing jerseys bearing the name of Argentina star Messi will be denied entry to the stadium.

Speaking in an interview with Radio La Red, Villasboa wasted no time in making his stance clear regarding the unwritten rule, which is set to impact Messi supporters attending the match.

"Fans wearing jerseys of the Argentine national team, Barça, or Inter Miami with Messi's name on them will not be allowed into the stadium," said Villasboa.

"No one is allowed to wear a jersey of the Argentine national team, of Argentine clubs, or of clubs with the names of players from other countries.

"We want to fill the Defensores del Chaco with the colours of the Albirroja, so the players can feel that support from the stands, as we are all part of this match, each in our own way."

The decision to limit fan attire in such a manner is likely to stir debate, but the Paraguay Football Association appears resolute in their aim to rally behind their national team in a stadium awash with the red, white, and blue of the Albirroja.
