Latest On Riveiro’s Pirates Future Amid League Title Ambitions

Since joining Orlando Pirates three seasons ago, head coach Jose Riveiro has won five trophies with the club, but is believed to still have his eye on the coveted league title.

With his initial three-year contract ending in June 2025, sources at the club have revealed to Soccer Laduma that the Spaniard looks set to only decide his future only at the end of the season.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, Pirates are understood to have offered Riveiro another three-year deal, with indications that the coach is yet to sign on the dotted line.

Sources have indicated that Riveiro is contemplating his future, with the league title potentially being the decisive factor.

"There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home. He hasn't been with his family for almost three years, and winning the league title would mean he has achieved almost everything in local football. The league title may decide the coach's future. That's what's believed as things stand," a source told Soccer Laduma.

Meanwhile, it has been further revealed to the Siya crew that the Pirates are in discussion with the coach's representatives.

"Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn't made up his mind. He has made it clear that he misses home and family and will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome," the source added.

The 49-year-old Spaniard has been in charge of 100 games at Pirates, with 61 wins and led the side to five cup finals.

The Siya crew made attemps to contact Pirates for comment, but no response was received at the time of publishing.
