Ancelotti Breaks Silence On Ballon d'Or Boycott

Ancelotti Breaks Silence On Ballon d'Or Boycott

After Real Madrid boycotted the 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony, manager Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly addressed the controversial incident for the first time.

No members of Los Blancos' first team attended the event in Paris last week Monday after president Florentino Perez cancelled his club's trip after finding out Vinicius Junior would not be willing the Ballon d'Or.

The winger, 24, narrowly lost out to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, after planning for around 30 people to attend the ceremony to see him claim the prestigious individual prize.

Real's actions have since been widely criticised online and by pundits, with the club accused of "lacking class".

Ahead of their UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan this week, however, Ancelotti claimed what happened was in the past, particularly in light of the flooding in Spain.

"The truth is that we are sad about what happened in Spain," the Italian tactician said, according to Football Italia.

"We are sad because something incredible is going on.

"What happened last week [the Ballon d'Or ceremony] is the past."

Ancelotti won the Coach of the Year award at the ceremony, but nobody from the 15-time UEFA Champions League was present to accept his prize.
