Khanye Applauds Nabi's Chiefs: 'It's All Thanks' To Them

Kaizer Chiefs have been commended for the decision to participate in the CUFA Cup as the Betway Premiership is currently in recess during the FIFA international break.

As confirmed by the Soweto giants, the team will play against Bloemfontein-based Marumo Gallants in the inaugural competition at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday.

Having started the season well with two wins in their opening three, including the 2-1 victory over Gallants in the first match, Chiefs will be aiming at maintaining that momentum when the League resumes.

A sold-out crowd is expected judging by the full Toyota Stadium on two occasions when Amakhosi played Gallants, and during the pre-season against Young Africans of Tanzania.

Sunday's game will help Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi in his planning and to keep the players match fit, according to former midfielder, Junior Khanye.

"First and foremost, I must say that it is a good idea that Kaizer Chiefs will be involved in such a competitive competition, because they can't afford to lose the momentum. You must remember that sometimes players do let the coaches down because of a lot of things that happen during times like this. Sometimes players give coaches what they want when it comes to performing at training but come matchday, they produce zero performance and that's why games like these are important," said Khanye, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"Maybe this break was going to influence some of the players, looking at the fact that some of them have not been called up to the national team (Bafana Bafana), but this game may help to change that mindset if it was there. The team started the season very well, and it's all thanks to the coach and the players," Khanye added.
