Riveiro Discusses Sesane & Mabasa Bafana Call Ups

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has spoken glowingly about Thabiso Sesane's inclusion in Bafana Bafana's preliminary squad.

With South Africa set to prepare for their next 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo next month, Broos has named a preliminary squad of 32 players, including Sesane who has been in great form for Pirates this season playing alongside Olisa Ndah who has also made his way back to the Nigeria national team set-up.

As the Buccaneers defeated Polokwane City 3-0 in Orlando on Tuesday, Sesane had a great game again, and Riveiro has welcomed his inclusion in the national team.

"Sesane going to the national team, hopefully, because I guess this is a preliminary list, it's a new opportunity for one more player to be surrounded by experienced players, to get that experience on the continent, and we get the benefit of all of these things that are happening like going to the group stages (of the CAF Champions League), having the opportunity to challenge the best teams in the continent. All those things together are the key to keep the group ambitious, to keep the group humble and to keep the group wanting to be something in football," said Riveiro, speaking to journalists after the match.

Another Pirates player added to the Bafana list is Tshegofatso Mabasa who is the league's reigning top goal scorer.

"I think it's good news any time that there's a Pirates player on the list of whichever national team, in this case, Bafana Bafana. I don't even know, you are telling me the news right now. I don't even know who is there, I was quite busy there outside today. But happiness for the boys. I think if coach Hugo is putting eyes in our boys, we are happy, and it's because they are performing well and good enough to get that responsibility because it's a big one to play for your country," the coach added.
