Sono's Prediction On Broos' Bafana Future

Sono's Prediction On Broos' Bafana Future

Jomo Sono has made a prediction on the future of Hugo Broos as the Belgian closes in on becoming the longest-serving Bafana Bafana coach in history.

Broos' Bafana Bafana side played out to a 2-2 draw in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group K qualifier against Uganda at Orlando Stadium on Friday evening, as debutant Thalente Mbatha saved the day with a last minute goal that earned a draw.

Despite the disappointing result, few would argue that Broos has been the right fit for the national team, with results proving that the side is no longer a laughing stock on the continent. The Belgian has been at the helm of the national team for three years and four months, which is just five months less than Clive Barker's reign as coach between March 1994 and December 1997.

Sono, who has been in charge of the national team on three separate occasions, has been impressed with the work of Broos and feels he has a chance of staying longer than what Barker did.

"I think he is doing a good job. We must not take away the fact that he is doing a good. I think he will stay longer. If he can survive you guys (the media), he will stay longer. When he started, he was being character assassinated left, right and centre and he proved all of us wrong," Sono said to media.

"I think he is a good coach and he is doing very well. He noticed that it's a different ball game. The national team is not a ground where you can rebuild or build. In the national team, you just have to play players who are ready and go and win. That's it. He is playing players who are ready to play for the country and go and win."
