NEW: Star Vows To Never Play For Manager Again

An international player has vowed to never play for his country's manager again following comments the coach made regarding his recent move to Saudi Arabia.

In a recent interview, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman declared Steven Bergwijn's time with the national team over after he completed a transfer to Saudi Pro League giants Al Ittihad.

The blunt message from Koeman caught many off guard as the 61-year-old claimed the winger, who represented Ons Oranje at the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany, had demonstrated a lack of ambition.

Bergwijn, soon to be 27 years old, has now hit out back at the Netherlands boss, whom he says was out of order making those comments without discussing it with him first.

"I don't even want to play for Ronald Koeman anymore," he said, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

"I won't play for someone who portrays me like he has done in the media.

"He could have called me, heard my side of the story. How can he say such things without talking to me?"

Bergwijn has been capped on 35 occasions for the Netherlands, contributing to 11 goals across all competitions.
