Roberto Martinez's charges were 2-0 up 11 minutes before the break after Ronaldo fired home a cross by Nuno Mendes and scored his 900th career goal.

The Chequered Ones got a goal back just before the interval after an own goal by Dalot, but Portugal held on to maximum points in the second stanza.

After a frantic start, the game opened up only ten minutes before the interval after Luka Jovic missed an open goal for Serbia.

Spain had the better chances and the bulk of possession in the second stanza but they had no finishing touches, as the game ended goalless.

Poland had a winning start in League A1 after edging Scotland in a five-goal thriller at Hampden Park.

Poland went ahead inside the first eight minutes after Sebastian Szymanski unleashed a long-range effort into goal after an offload from Robert Lewandowski.
