'He Has Been Average' – Ex-France Star Slams Mbappe

'He Has Been Average' – Ex-France Star Slams Mbappe

A former France international has claimed Kylian Mbappe has been "average" for a very long time.

A French FIFA World Cup winner has slammed Kylian Mbappe for his performances in recent times, claiming the 25-year-old has "been insufficient in the game for a very long time".

Despite having scored three goals in his first five matches for Real Madrid, the France captain has been the subject of criticism in Spain and around Europe for his performances in white.

Among his critics is former Les Bleus international Christophe Dugarry, who made three appearances for France in their 1998 FIFA World Cup-winning campaign and eventually retired with 55 caps to his name.

The 52-year-old believes Mbappe's all-round game has significantly stagnated in recent months, and urged the former Paris Saint-Germain No. 7 to improve.

"It remains a successful start to the season. He scored in the first match, he has just scored a double," Dugarry told RMC Sport.

"If you stick strictly to the statistics, it is successful. Mbappe, despite significant statistics and goals, has been average and insufficient in the game for a very long time.

"For several months, whether in the French team, with Paris Saint-Germain or currently in Madrid. He needs to improve in his role as an attacker, in duels, in the physical challenge when you play in this position, in his heading game and his technical quality.

"He makes less and less of a difference and needs to question himself. He will have to improve in the game."

Mbappe is expected to be in action for France in the UEFA Nations League against Italy on Friday night, and against Belgium next week Monday.
