Exclusive: Myeni Confirms Big Career Decision

Former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates attacker Sifiso Myeni has made a decision that is not always easy for footballers, as he prepares himself for the next chapter of his life.

Having recently been on the books of VTM FC in Botswana, the 36-year-old Myeni has decided to end what has been a memorable playing career.

"I've made up my mind. I had a meeting with the people who have supported me, which is my family. I had to come up with a decision with them as a collective that I am hanging up my boots. It's been a good journey for me and there are no regrets. I have been happy with my playing career, from when I started to how it ended. No regrets whatsoever," Myeni said exclusively to the Siya crew.

Myeni burst onto the scene as a Bidvest Wits player, getting into the first team in 2008. As a youngster at the time, Myeni established himself as one of the club's most important players and arguably their most valuable asset. His first major title as a professional footballer was secured in 2010, when Wits thumped AmaZulu 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup final at FNB Stadium.

Inevitably, Myeni attracted interest from the big guns of South African football and it was Orlando Pirates who won the race to sign the talented player and it was a memorable period for him with the Buccaneers, which saw him being part of the teams which reached the 2013 CAF Champions League and 2015 CAF Confederation Cup finals. Myeni was also on the scoresheet as Pirates won the Nedbank Cup in 2014 under Vladimir Vermezovic.

A return to Wits was made sweeter by the fact that he won the league and cup double in 2016/17, clinching the MTN8 and Premiership titles. He made it back-to-back MTN8 titles when he won it while he was on loan to SuperSport United in 2017/18.

Myeni also played for TS Sporting and his last club was VTM in Botswana. He got to feature for Bafana Bafana, as he received his first call-up under Pitso Mosimane.

"I appreciate everything and everyone who supported me and those who still support me even now. But I think it's time to hang up the boots and look in another direction and start a new journey. There is no decision I can go back and say 'this decision was a bad one'. All my decisions were good and I had the support. To all the fans who supported me, I'd like to thank them very much. I'll still be in the football industry. I won't be lost to football. It was not an easy decision, but I am happy with the decision to hang up the boots."
