Mbappe Aims For CR7 Numbers In Debut Real Season

In his debut season as a Real Madrid player, Kylian Mbappe is aiming to equal a benchmark set by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese marksman is Los Blancos' all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 450 goals in 438 matches for the Spanish giants during his near-decade-long spell at the club.

This was in large part due to his prolific run between 2011 and 2016, when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored at least 50 goals a season for club. No other Los Merengues player has been able to emulate that feat since.

In his final season as a Paris Saint-Germain player, Mbappe scored a career-best 44 goals in all competitions, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was recently quizzed on whether or not he can become the first Real player since Ronaldo to reach the half-century goal mark.

Speaking to Movistar, the Bondy native answered by saying: "We are at Real Madrid, we have no limit, if I can score 50, then 50, but the most important thing is winning and improving as a team, because we will win as a team."

If 50 goals for the season is his target, then he has got off to a good start as he christened his debut for his new side with a strike in their 2-0 UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta on Wednesday night.

"It was a great night, I've been waiting for this moment for a long time," he added.

"To play with this shirt, with this badge, for these fans, it's a gift for me. We won a trophy too, that's very important, we know that, here, we always have to win and I am very happy."
