The 19-year-old French defender leaves United after making only 10 senior appearances in the 2023/24 season.
Kambwala signed for the 20-time English champions from FC Sochaux as a youth player in 2000, before breaking into the first team in January.
It is said that United have included a buy-back option in their agreement with Villarreal, as well as a sell-on clause.
Kambwala showed promise in his appearances under Erik ten Hag, but the club's push for defensive reinforcements perhaps shows the centre-back would have seen his playing time reduced.
