The story

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango took a trip down memory lane to look back on his football firsts with his club's media team.

The Ugandan legend, who's current contract with Sundowns expired at the end of June, is the most decorated player in the history of the DStv Premiership, as he boasts a staggering 11 league titles (eight with Sundowns, three with SuperSport United).

Onyango has been at Chloorkop since 2011 and the 39-year-old is showing no signs of wanting to retire, with his former club, SuperSport United, tipped to be his next destination if he leaves Downs.

For now, Onyango is still a Sundowns man and he answered a number of questions regarding his first memories in the beautiful game.

"My first gloves? They didn't even have a name. They were given to me by the director of our school," revealed the ever-humble goalkeeper.

Here's the rest of the QA:

1. What is your first ever memory of football?

Onyango: My first football memory was playing in the junior league back home and of course not being selected as one of the few that represented the region but it was a learning curve. It was still one of my best memories.

2. What were your first football boots?

Onyango: My first football boots had two stripes, they were blue and were given to me by someone. They had six studs and I was using them on a very rough pitch but I never minded because they were given to me a present. They were my first boots and I really loved them.

3. What was your first Junior team?

Onyango: My first junior club was called 'Friends of Football' and it was for the under-12s up to under-15. That was my first junior club.

4. What was your first professional match?

Onyango: In the professional league, it was SC Villa against Yumbe United in North Uganda.

5. Who was your first coach?

Onyango: In professional football, it was Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic.

6. What was the first trophy you won?

Onyango: My firs ever trophy was a school trophy that I won with the Kampala Citizens. It was called the Buganda Cup, it was the first ever trophy I won as a professional footballer.

7. What was your first CAF Champions League match?

Onyango: My first CAF game was actually against Al Ahly. It was when I was playing for Sports Club Villa back in 2004 I think.

8. What is your first memory of Mamelodi Sundowns?

Onyango: My first memory with Sundowns was when we won the Telkom Knockout and I had a brilliant game. For me, it's one of the best memories I have at the club.
