According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, ex-Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has decided to not continue speaking to the Red Devils following talks.
The German tactician became a candidate to succeed Ten Hag after leaving the Bavarians, although an official call from United on their current boss has not yet been made.
It has been reported that Tuchel would prefer to take a break from football despite recently saying he would be open to a return to England.
United's new co-ownership group INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is believed to have held discussions with multiple candidates after this past season.
Although the Red Devils won the FA Cup, beating rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the final, the team's poor performances in the Premier League have left Ten Hag's future uncertain.
The Dutchman is under contract in Manchester until June 2025 and is still awaiting communication over whether or not he will continue at Old Trafford.
