On Wednesday, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc disclosed the sum of money Mourinho and the staff he has brought along with him will earn annually.

The 61-year-old was unveiled as the Turkish giants' new manager on the weekend in front of thousands of fans, who cheered as they got to see Mourinho beside Fenerbahce's colours for the first time.

"Other clubs other than us met with Mourinho. Besiktas also contacted him," Koc said, according to the Daily Mail.

"Aziz Yildirim and Sadettin Saran also met. But we met before all of these. We made a much more suitable offer than the offer made by Aziz Yildirim and he accepted it.

"Mourinho was impressed by our dreams. We gave him and his entire team €12 million (R247 million) annually."

The ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United boss has committed to a two-year deal in the Turkish Super Lig, with his contract including an option for a third year.

Speaking at his presentation at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Sunday, Mourinho said he feels a "big responsibility" after seeing the appreciation from supporters.
