An incensed Xavi was shown a red card on the touchline during his side's 4-1 defeat to PSG, a result that saw them crash out of the competition.

The Spaniard appeared furious with referee Istvan Kovacs following his decision to send Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo off in the first half, and his anger increased when Barcelona were denied a penalty soon after the break.

Speaking after the encounter, he admitted to telling the match official that his performance was "a disaster", but the Romanian referee was not the only person Xavi did not agree with on the night.

PSG manager Luis Enrique said post-match that his side would have progressed to the next round even without Araujo's sending off, and that he hoped his former colleague and player, whom he coached at Barcelona, would remain at the Blaugrana for "many years to come".

As per football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Xavi, when asked about his ex-teammate and mentor's remarks, replied: "I say no to both."

Another member of Barcelona's coaching staff was sent off during the intense encounter in Spain.
