On the weekend, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Gamal Allam confirmed that Pyramids winger Ramadan Sobhi, who has been capped on 37 occasions for Egypt, had produced a positive drug test in the Egyptian Premier League.

Speaking on ONSports FM, Allam said the EFA received confirmation over the result of the test from FIFA, but added that the 27-year-old, who had spells at Stoke City and Huddersfield in England, might have ingested a banned substance unknowingly.

"The responsible committee from FIFA sent us an official letter where Ramadan Sobhi's doping sample returned positive," he stated.

"Pyramids also informed us about the test results but they will have 10 days to make their appeal. There will be another test, however, before we take any action against the player.

"It is possible that he took some medicine which he didn't know much about."

Sobhi joined Pyramids, where he plays alongside South African forward Fagrie Lakay, in 2020 and has since made 116 appearances.
