Three Top African Nations Who Could Appoint Mosimane

Three Top African Nations Who Could Appoint Mosimane

With Pitso Mosimane's agent recently admitting that they are actively looking for national team opportunities, we look at three African giants that could do with the South African's services.

The Indomitable Lions are currently not in the best of positions. The west African's struggled this past Africa Cup of Nations as an unimpressive group stage performance culminated in them being eliminated by eventual finalists Nigeria.

Their performances on the pitch have been compounded by the administrative issues and controversy which has been surrounding Cameroonian Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o. Over the last 18 months, the iconic striker has assaulted a fan at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, been accused of manipulating referees in his domestic league, has taken a personal sponsorship with sport betting company and has recently had to deal with an age-cheating scandal with his senior team.

The five-time African champions are now without a head coach after they parted ways with Rigobert Song post-AFCON. This current international being the last for non-competitive fixtures for African nations until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it is paramount Eto'o and his fellow chiefs to find a new boss and Mosimane could provide suitable stability to the team.

Nigeria

Unlike Cameroon, Nigeria do actually have a coach. Earlier this week the Super Eagles confirmed that Finidi George would be appointed, but only on an interim basis. This leaves the door open for the 59-year-old to take the job, especially if George underperforms against Mali and Ghana in their upcoming fixtures.

Mosimane expressed his adoration for the current crop of Nigerian talent late last year, claiming that he would accept the job if he was offered it. The three-time African champions are in a seemingly good place having just been in the AFCON final, but the lack of a permanent boss going into FIFA World Cup qualifiers could destabilise what Jose Peseiro has built.

Should the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager take responsibility of the continental powerhouse after this international break, his first competitive match would be against Bafana Bafana in June.

Tunisia

Unlike the two aforementioned teams, the Carthage Eagles made a decision very quickly on who they would appointment after Jalel Kadri resigned from his post after AFCON group stage elimination.

The Tunisian Football Federation decided to go with interim co-coaches in Montasser Louhichi and Anis Boussaidi for the foreseeable future. However, these appointments have not inspired much confidence in their supporters as they expect much of the same football that the team has been playing under the last few head coaches.

The north Africans are looking for a more permanent solution to their managerial situation as it was rumoured that they were trying to lure Hugo Broos away from South Africa, but with Mosimane available he could be a perfect fit. He has coached in the region at club level before and has been extremely successful.

Like Cameroon, Tunisia also have some hierarchical issues as their football federation president, Wadie Jary, is currently in jail. They will definitely need to sort that out before deciding who their next had coach is.
