Let's take a closer look at what the legend had to say about the AFCON-winning Bafana Bafana coach.

Doctor Khumalo soeaks on Clive Barker

It's been almost a year since Clive Barker's passing, the iconic coach of the 1996 Bafana Bafana team that hosted and won the Africa Cup of Nations, putting Mzansi's football on the map.

Legendary midfielder Doctor Khumalo was one of Barker's favourite players and "16v" reflecting on what Barker meant to him as a player and as a person.

"Clive knew how to utilise my talent," he told DJ Fresh on the media veteran's "WAW: What A Week" podcast, also revealing what he misses about Barker:

"What I miss about Clive? It's another father that I had, that I didn't know, irrespective of the colour. It's scarce to find a coach that asks about your family when you report to camp and 'Please say happy birthday to your mom' like, how does he know it's my mom's birthday?

"These are small things that he used to do and I'd ask myself, 'how did he know?' A person that does that is building a foundation in your heart," shares Doctor.

"He understood not only how players play, he understood the culture. This is the most important part, where people don't understand and think that a coach can do things haphazardly. That's not the case. Clive knew the South African culture, he knew how to address players like Shoes [John Moshoeu), how to address Tovey, how to address Doctor," he added.
