Thembinkosi Lorch was critical of his own game after making his debut for Mamelodi Sundowns against his former side Orlando Pirates this weekend.

The scene could not be more dramatic as Lorch was named in the starting XI by coach Rulani Mokwena at a sold out Loftus Versveld Stadium.

The 30-year-old was on the receiving end of some jeers from the fans who once sang his name in praise, while his former teammates ensured that there was no warm homecoming, with a bunch of aggressive challenges aimed in his direction.

Overall, Lorch's debut lasted for 62 minutes.

Speaking to the Sundowns media department after the game, Lorch was critical of his performance under tough conditions and felt like his side has enough in their locker to win the match.

"It wasn't an easy game. I'm just happy for the opportunity to play – but I'm not happy about the results. I think I didn't have a good game but it was my first game, so I need to go back and do the corrections and see where it went wrong. We should have won this game," he told Sundowns' media department.

"I was not expecting it to be easy because obviously I was playing against my former team. You heard the supporters booing me but I just need to improve on this performance.

"What Ronwen (Williams) said to me gave me so much motivation and it gave me the assurance that the guys are fully behind me and that I must play my normal game. The coach also told me not to put myself under pressure and just play my normal game," he continued.
