Official: Wydad Athletic Club Managerless For Fifth Time In One Year

North African giants Wydad Athletic Club are now without a manager for the fifth time within a year after the recent departure of Faouzi Benzarti.

Since succeeding Adil Ramzi towards the end of 2023, the Tunisian tactician endured a torrid return to the Red Castle.

The veteran coach managed only two wins in the 10 matches he took charge of, suffering five defeats in the process.

Their most recent 3-1 loss in the Botola Pro to JS Soualem seemingly proved the last straw for the 74-year-old.

In a post-match press conference, as per Sport 7, Benzarti announced he would be resigning from the club, citing mounting pressure as a consequence of the negative performances since his arrival in the hot seat.

The 1993/94 CAF Champions League winner's exit now means he is the fifth managerial casualty the record Moroccan champions have had since the beginning of 2023. Mehdi Nafti, Juan Carlos Garrido, Sven Vandenbroeck, Ramzi and Benzarti have all vacated the post in the space of about a year.

With Wydad now 12 points off joint-Botola Pro leaders FUS Rabat and Raja Casablanca, adding to their haul of league titles seems unlikely at this stage. They will now focus on their next league match against RSB Berkane this weekend, before a crunch CAF Champions League tie against Jwaneng Galaxy next week, and it remains to be seen if they will have a new head coach in place for those matches.
