'New Signings Would Destabilise Johnson's Chiefs Progress'

'New Signings Would Destabilise Johnson's Chiefs Progress'

Isaac Mabotsa

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and a few other teams have signed new players to strengthen their respective squads for the second half of the season and beyond, but what about Kaizer Chiefs?

This is one of the questions that are being asked by Amakhosi supporters on various social media platforms as the transfer window is just hours away from closing.

The PSL has already confirmed this week that the transfer window will be closing tonight.

Meanwhile, Chiefs' football manager Bobby Motaung confirmed that there has been no plans for the Naturena-based outfit to bring in any new faces for now.

Former Chiefs defender, Isaac Mabotsa, believes that the club's decision could benefit the team in interim coach Cavin Johnson's plan to improve the results.

The Good

"For me, I would say it's a 50/50 kind of a situation what the club has decided. The way I see it, the club wants to give coach Cavin Johnson more time to prove himself and hopefully to continue improving the team like he has already done so far. Coach Cavin is someone I know, and I am familiar with his coaching style. He is very good in working with the young players and he has proven himself repeatedly at the clubs he has worked for previously and Chiefs are set to benefit in having him at the club. I remember at Platinum Stars, he had a lot of youngsters he unearthed and the results were there for everyone to see. In saying that he is very good with the youngsters, I know what I am talking about because I had an opportunity to train under him as a youngster and I benefited from his training methods and coaching. The results are there for everyone to see that he is doing a good job at Chiefs. If I remember well, when he was made an interim coach at Chiefs, the plan was for the club to search for a coach to bring in January but because Johnson is doing well that has been put on hold," said Mabotsa.

The Bad

"Bringing new players now could destabilise the team and affect the progress that has been done so far. Looking at how well the team did just before the end of the year, bringing in new players and making changes could take the club a few steps backwards in terms of what it wants to achieve. With the improvement that the coach has made, no one would want to disrupt him in his plans," he said.

The Ugly

The disappointing SuperSport United spell

"Unfortunately, things didn't work out for the coach at SuperSport but that doesn't mean he isn't a good coach. The fact that he earned that move in the first place means that he did well previously where he was. It was his good work at Platinum Stars that earned him the SuperSport move and that cannot be discounted," he concluded.
