Chiefs Set To Release Senior Defender?

After rejoining Kaizer Chiefs two seasons ago, defender Zitha Kwinika could find himself looking for a new club again, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources in the know have indicated that Chiefs may be looking at releasing the former Stellenbosch FC defender as he may be surplus to requirements at the moment.

The source added that the competition from other central defenders and right backs has placed more pressure on the Amakhosi youth development product.

"His future at the moment is a blur. It's really not clear. The club wants to release him because they have a number of defenders in that position. You know the signings of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe have changed things a lot and Edmilson Dove's involvement in the central defence has also put more pressure on Zitha and they don't want to be keeping a player on a good salary without him playing," said the Siya source.

"Then even if they want to use him as a right back they have players who are better than him in that position. It's a tricky situation for him," the source told the Siya crew.

A second Siya source privy to more information added, that alternatively, Amakhosi may be discussing if they could let him stay and compete for a spot until the end of his contract in June 2025.

"He has almost a year and a half still remaining on his contract and the other option is to let him compete with those other defenders and see if he can play until at the end of his contract. But as it stands it's not a done deal yet as they are still discussing about his future.

"So it will also depend if they can find a team for him on loan or if there is a team interested in him then things will work out faster than expected. But his future hangs in the balance right now," the source observed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
