As a result, the European giants will walk away with $5million (R92million) for winning the tournament.

The win also saw Pep Guardiola become the first coach to win the tournament four times, having done so twice with Barcelona and once with Bayern Munich.

Al Ahly, meanwhile, secured the bronze medal for a record fourth time in their history after overcoming Urawa Reds 4-2 on Friday evening.

The African champions have also pocketed $2.5 million R46 million for finishing third in the tournament.

The Red Devils' third-place finish remains Africa's best-ever finish at the tournament.
