Khune Suspended Pending Disciplinary Hearing?

Khune Suspended Pending Disciplinary Hearing?

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune allegedly arrived at training intoxicated with alcohol according to reports in the local media recently, and the Siya crew investigates what could happen next for the goalkeeper at the club.

Siya sources close to Naturena have indicated that Amakhosi are expected to take action and that the former South Africa number one could be slapped with an indefinite suspension pending a disciplinary hearing.

Insiders privy to information added that Khune may be suspended until he appears before the club's disciplinary committee with his representatives.

A source noted that Chiefs would intend for their Disciplinary Committee to sit as soon as possible to finalise the problem as it can have a negative impact on the team.

"For now it's an indefinite suspension. The DC will decide on the period when everything is finalised. Everyone including his representatives have agreed that he should not be part of the team while that disciplinary hearing is going on," said the Siya source.

"I can't say when it will finish right now because everyone involved has to present their case. But yeah, he has been suspended," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second source added that the club wants to set an example to other players that the alleged behaviour is not tolerated.

"You see the difference with him and Mduduzi (Mdantsane) is the level of alcohol they took or that was found in their blood after the test. Secondly because he is the captain and most senior player at the club right now," said the second source.

"He should lead by example. So the suspension will involve the salary as well. After the final decision is made it will be decided on whether to donate part of his salary to a charity or if they will just deduct it.

"But it will be part of the suspension and punishment at the end of the day," the source observed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
