Sikhakhane: Soweto Derby Loss To Motivate Chiefs

Sikhakhane: Soweto Derby Loss To Motivate Chiefs

Ntokozo Sikhakhane

Kaizer Chiefs could come back stronger than before following their loss in the Soweto derby in the previous game, according to Ntokozo 'Koloba' Sikhakhane, who spoke exclusively to the Siya crew.

Chiefs are scheduled to visit Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday for the re-start of their stuttering league campaign.

While Amakhosi interim coach Cavin Johnson will want to make no excuses in planning for his second win in four matches in charge, the team has some concerns due to possible unavailability of some players.

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is one of the stars who could miss the match after he dislocated his shoulder while playing for Botswana on Tuesday.

Sikhakhane, who is a former midfielder for the Soweto giants, believes that the Glamour Boys could come back stronger despite the inconsistent results they have had this season.

The Good

"I think Chiefs is going to do something extraordinary as they come from a disappointing result – a loss in the Soweto derby in the previous game. I have no doubt that the coach will want to do well to turn things around for the team. I foresee a win for Chiefs as I do not think they will want to approach the Christmas break still struggling to get the results. The team played well in the last two matches against Cape Town Spurs and Pirates respectively," said Sikhakhane.

The Bad

"My problem with Chiefs is that they don't score enough goals and they are inconsistent. The break came at the right time for the coach and I think it helped him to address some of the problems," he added.

The Ugly

On Ditlhokwe injury

"Injuries will always be there and are part of football. It will be an opportunity for other players to prove themselves if he is unavailable. Maybe (Njabulo) Ngcobo and (Given) Msimango will get to partner at centre-back and do well. And apart from them, there are other available players in the squad and they can do the job. What is important is that when given an opportunity as a footballer, you should use it. Football is all about opportunities and how you grab them," he continued.

'Their frustrations are understandable'

Appealing for patience to the supporters

"It cannot be a nice feeling (being booed by your supporters) although I never experienced it. I am saying this knowing very well that it has been too long since the supporters last enjoyed the success of the team. The club hasn't won anything in a while and therefore their frustrations are understandable. But it (unruly behaviour) is not going to help as the club will keep on getting fined by the league. I would like to appeal to the supporters to exercise patience and rally behind the team," concluded Sikhakhane.
