Insider: Mudau Monitored By EPL Club

Ahmed Abdelkader of Al Ahly challenges Khuliso Mudau of Mamelodi Sundowns during the African Football League 2023 match between Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on 1 November 2023

Khuliso 'Sailor' Mudau has become the latest player from Mamelodi Sundowns to attract interest from abroad, the Siya crew can exclusively reveal.

Mudau has improved greatly in recent seasons and has been one of the influential players in the Brazilians' impressive 2023/24 campaign in the Premiership and African Football League respectively.

He was crowned DStv Premiership Defender of the Season at the end of the last campaign.

The 28-year-old has also impressed in Bafana Bafana colours, having emerged as arguably the best player on the pitch in the most recent match against Ivory Coast last month, with coach Hugo Broos likely to include him in the squad for next year's Africa Cup of Nations judging by his current form.

Mudau was at his usual best again in the right side of defence for Downs as the former African champions narrowly lost to Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in the AFL final first leg in Morocco last Sunday.

According to sources, the right-back is being monitored in the Premier League by Burnley, the same club as his Bafana teammate Lyle Foster.

"Khuliso Mudau is being monitored by Burnley in the Premier League. This is the player who has done very well in recent months and has been consistent," revealed the source.

"(Vincent) Kompany, (Burnley coach) has shown interest the player. Sailor (Mudau) was groomed properly, and it is not surprising to see him where he is now. Things are going well for him at Sundowns and he is getting the best coaching one can ask for and good guidance under Rulani Mokwena and his technical team and is gaining invaluable experience from playing in Africa," the source concluded.

Mudau has been named in Bafana's preliminary squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

This coming Sunday, the tough defender will be expected to play an important role as Downs will be playing in the AFL final second leg, with Mokwena and team aiming to bring the inaugural trophy and the R73 million prize money to Chloorkop.

It remains to be seen if Mudau could be the next player to leave for greener pastures and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cassius Mailula who signed for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, and Haashim Domingo who left for Morocco's Raja Casablanca after leaving Sundowns.
