CAF 'Punish' Al Ahly For Actions After Sundowns Loss

CAF has reportedly decided to punish Al Ahly for their supporters' actions after their African Football League match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly decided to punish Al Ahly for what transpired after they were eliminated from the African Football League by Mamelodi Sundowns.

It seems things have gone from bad to worse for the Egyptian giants regarding their AFL campaign.

The Red Devils suffered elimination from the competition's inaugural iteration at the hands of the DStv Premiership champions following the South Africans' 1-0 aggregate win.

Traditionally strong in continental tournaments, having won a record 11 CAF Champions League titles in their history, Marcel Koller's charges were unable to ooze this continental aura in the new showpiece, exiting the AFL without registering a single win.

Al Ahly drew back-to-back matches with Tanzanian outfit Simba SC in the quarter-final stage. First the two sides were embroiled in a captivating 2-2 draw in the AFL's opening match, before the Club of the Century managed to progress to the next round via the away goals rule after the second leg ended 1-1.

The Egyptians then failed to find the back of the net against Masandawana as a 1-0 defeat in Tshwane proved to be the result that sent them home. After the 0-0 draw in the second leg in Cairo, the home fans were said to have been unhappy with Senegalese referee Issa Sy's performance during that match.

They were so unhappy with his showing that they reportedly threw bottles at him after the encounter, and according to El7ekaya, CAF's Disciplinary Committee has decided to fine the Egyptian side $120 000 (R2.2 million) for their supporter's ill-discipline.
