Top Five Leagues: The Leading Scorers This Season So Far

Top Five Leagues: The Leading Scorers This Season So Far

With two months of the 2023/24 season having already passed, here is a look at the 11 top goalscorers across Europe's top five leagues so far. It is no surprise seeing Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland near the top, but they still trail a certain African international!

The 2023/24 campaign has been filled with cracking games and expertly finished goals, but who across the European continent's five strongest leagues – the Premier League, LALIGA, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 – is currently leading the pack?

It has been an impressive start to the season for Heung-min Son, who is already two goals away from matching his entire league tally of 10 goals last term. The 31-year-old is seemingly relishing his role as Tottenham Hotspur's new talisman since Harry Kane's switch to Bayern Munich, with new manager Ange Postecoglou currently using his captain as a lone striker. While it might be unfair on Kane to suggest his absence has made room for Son to take his game to new heights, one wonders if he would be scoring this freely from wider positions.

Here are the 11 leading goalscorers across Europe's top five leagues so far this season:

Jonas Wind
7= Jonas Wind (Wolfsburg) – 8 goals
Heung-min Son
7= Heung-min Son (Tottenham Hotspur) – 8 goals
Lois Openda
7= Lois Openda (RB Leipzig) – 8 goals
Leroy Sane
7= Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) – 8 goals
Mohamed Salah
7= Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 8 goals
Kylian Mbappe
5= Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) – 10 goals
Jude Bellingham
5= Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) – 10 goals
3= Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan) – 10 goals
3= Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 10 goals
Harry Kane
2. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 12 goals
Serhou Guirassy
1. Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) – 14 goals

Wolfsburg's Jonas Wind, RB Leipzig's Lois Openda, Bayern's Leroy Sane and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah have also struck eight times in league football so far this season, with the latter continuing to cement his legacy as one of the Premier League's greatest players of all time. The Egypt international, who has been named as a nominee for the 2023 CAF Men's Player of the Year award, is still widely considered as the Reds' most important forward and is one of two African internationals in the 11-man list.

Tied in third place, with 10 goals in Ligue 1 and LALIGA respectively so far, is Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe, who looked a reserved figure at the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday night. The 24-year-old France captain finished third on the podium, behind Haaland, whose 11 league goals this season see him tied in third place for now alongside Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez.

In second on the list is the aforementioned Kane, who might not be missed right now at Spurs but is enjoying a fabulous start to life under Thomas Tuchel in the Bundesliga. The England skipper's hat-trick this past weekend, in an 8-0 victory over Darmstadt, took to his league tally to 12 for the season, with the 30-year-old having only failed to score in two of the nine league games he has featured in so far. However, although Kane is firing on all cylinders after becoming Bayern's most expensive signing in history, he still isn't leading the way in the Bundesliga and Europe! That tag still belongs to Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy, who has netted 14 times in just eight league matches to date.
