Mamelodi Sundowns could release one of their most expensive players from his contract, the Siya crew has been informed.
Bolivian midfielder Erwin Saavedra has not played for Sundowns as he is currently in his home country doing his rehabilitation. Siya sources have indicated that the club is looking at releasing him before the end of his contract in June 2024.

Sources add that although the club has a two-year option on the player, they will probably not exercise it as they could terminate his contract soon.
"It has been tough for the player. He hasn't really recovered from his injury and since May he hasn't played football and the club has been paying his salary," said the Siya source.
"He is currently in his home country Bolivia where he is going through rehabilitation and the club feels it's time they cut ties and give him more time to recover.
"You know his current contract is expiring in June 2024 but the club has a two-year option which they want to terminate now. They want to terminate even the remaining eight or nine months remaining so that he is a free agent. To do that they can work on the logistics on releasing him," the source told Soccer Laduma.
A second Siya source has indicated that Sundowns could be having talks with the player and his representatives to reach an agreement of his release.
"As it stands now it's all up to the Sporting Director and the player's representatives. You know the SD is the one in charge of player movements at the moment and when they reach an agreement with the player on the way forward it's when we will know all the logistics," said the second source.
"But they are working on parting ways amicably before his contract expires in June next year," the source observed.
Sundowns were contacted for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
