Gqosha: Billiat Was Overrated For Chiefs

Gqosha: Billiat Was Overrated For Chiefs

Khama Billiat

Khama Billiat is still without a club since parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs at the expiry of his contract in June and there has been confusion about his next possible move.

Cape Town City has been the latest local club to be linked with the Zimbabwean international who was said to be also on the radar of teams from abroad in recent weeks.

While some in the fraternity have suggested that Billiat might have been misled on his decision to dump Chiefs at the end of last season, the skillful player has remained mum about his plans although his situation has become increasingly concerning to his fans as the 2023/24 season is progressing.

Chiefs had expected the star player to report for pre-season training to discuss the options about potentially extending his deal but he didn't avail himself, according to what was made public.

Whatever the plan is for Billiat, he and his handlers will need to act fast as time is running out, with the former PSL Footballer of the Season now 33 years old.

Former Chiefs defender Lifa Gqosha explains why he didn't lose sleep about Billiat leaving the Soweto giants.

The Good

"In looking at Khama Billiat's situation, I want to make an example about some of the best players in the world like (Cristiano) Ronaldo who wherever he has gone, he performed. You take Ronaldo to Machenster United, he performed. He went to Real Madrid, and he performed. He went to Juventus, and he performed. At all the clubs he played for, he made sure that he put in a 5-star performance but as for Khama Billiat I think he was overrated and didn't do anything for Chiefs," said Gqosha.

The Bad

"What I am going to say with regards to Khama Billiat's situation is my personal opinion because I am not inside the club, and I am not sure what is happening. I think Khama was a product of favouritism at the club, and I must state again that I am saying this from my own observation from the outside and I am subject to correction. All of us are speculating and if the club or the player have full details of what happened, they can come forward and tell us. I am saying this because ever since he arrived at the club I have never seen his contribution to the team comparing to what he did at Mamelodi Sundowns. Khama Billiat was a star performer at Sundowns. When Khama came to Chiefs, he became a mediocre player. How many goals did he score for Chiefs?" added Gqosha.

The Ugly

"For me, it was good that he left the club because it seemed like he wanted Kaizer Chiefs to run after him. He became like a player who wanted to be begged and all such things and I don't understand why. As a player, you are only good as your last game. Every time you play, you still have to work hard and perform as if it's your first one for the team and that is soccer, you have to prove yourself all the time. If you have had a good season, you mustn't think that things will just happen for you in the following season, and you still have to prove yourself again," he said.

In football nobody is irreplaceable

"Football is a team sport and players forget that one man doesn't make a team. Even if you can leave the club, the team will continue to exist and progress without you. If you leave the club, don't ever think that the team will struggle because in football nobody is irreplaceable," concluded Gqosha.

Where do you think Billiat's next deal will come from?
