Algeria Boss Reacts To Heated Exchange With Own Player

Algeria Boss Reacts To Heated Exchange With Own Player

Algeria's head coach has responded to questions surrounding his touchline spat with one of his players on Monday night, during which he could be seen he roughly grabbing the star.

On Monday night, the Desert Foxes played Egypt in an international friendly, and Djamel Belmadi decided to hand West Ham United attacker Said Benrahma his 21st cap for the team.

However, the attacker seemingly proved ineffective for the two-time African champions and his coach decided to take him off.

As the 28-year-old walked off the pitch, he looked unimpressed with his manager's decision as he refused to shake the boss' hand.

This infuriated the former midfielder, who then grabbed the Hammers star by the shirt, before sending him to the bench.

When the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations-winning tactician was quizzed about the incident, he said: "I don't want to talk about what happened with Said, he wasn't happy and I wasn't happy, already we can't get away with the story of Slimani and the penalty, that's not a debate."

Islam Slimani was unhappy with the ex-Brentford attacker for trying to take a late penalty during their 5-1 win over Cape Verde last week.

It is believed that everybody within the team is aware that when Riyad Mahrez is not playing, it is Slimani who is assigned penalty-taking duties.

It has not been a pleasant time for Benrahma at the London Stadium as well, as he has seemingly fallen down the pecking order in England, with his last three Premier League appearances coming off the bench.
