Ronaldo Responds To Retirement Question

Ronaldo Responds To Retirement Question

Portugal and Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has shared his latest thoughts on retirement as the 38-year-old approaches the end of his professional career.

Despite now playing his club football outside of Europe's top five leagues, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner continues to be a valued member of the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo captained A Selecao to a 3-2 victory over Slovakia on Friday and scored twice to help cement their spot at the 2024 UEFA European Championship, a tournament he previously suggested could be his last on the international stage.

The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid forward, however, has now said he has adapted his way of looking at the twilight of his career due to personal and professional experiences.

"Things have happened in my life, both on a personal and professional level, that make me think more in the short term nowadays," he said, according to PortuGoal.

"People say I'm going to play on until I'm 40 or 41 years old. I don't set these targets. It's a question of just enjoying the moment, which is a good moment.

"I feel good. My body is responding to how I've treated it over the years. I'm happy both at my club and in the Selecao.

"I've scored plenty of goals, I feel in good shape physically. It's a question of enjoying the moment."

This comes amid reports last week that Ronaldo is eyeing a place in Portugal's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as he aims to make one last attempt at lifting the prestigious trophy, like Lionel Messi did last year in Qatar.
