Official: 2030 FIFA World Cup Returns To Africa

Official: 2030 FIFA World Cup Returns To Africa

FIFA has officially announced that the 2030 World Cup will be held in six different countries, one of which will be an African nation!

The global showpiece has never been held simultaneously on more than one continent, but in seven years' time, the world can expect sport's biggest competition to be played across three in South America, Europe and Africa.

According to The Guardian, FIFA has reportedly decided to have Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina host the opening matches of that World Cup, before taking it to Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

The latter trio won the bid to host the 24th edition of the competition, but with South America having last hosted the contest in 2014, and 2030 marking 100 years since the first-ever World Cup in Uruguay, world football's governing body has decided to host the first three matches of the tournament in Latin America.

All six countries will automatically qualify for that World Cup, and with FIFA's new policy of rotating the tournament between continents, this opens up the 2034 edition to be held either in Asia or Oceania.

The same report claims that Saudi Arabia are now the frontrunners to welcome the world for that iteration of the competition, with the Middle Eastern nation set to submit a bid to be the sole hosts.

Australia is expected to rival the Saudis bid, potentially proposing a joint bid with Indonesia, but with the massive amounts of money the Gulf state has been investing in football through its Public Investment Fund, it seems likely, at that this point, that they will win.
