How Chiefs Could Benefit From International Football

While there may be concern over the lack of players on international duty at Kaizer Chiefs, it could be a blessing in disguise right now for head coach Molefi Ntseki, who has more time to work with the team.

Amakhosi have made a shaky start to the season, but recent results have given supporters some hope that the campaign might not be as disappointing as the ones they have experienced over the last few years. Before the break, Amakhosi registered a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership and conceded late in the MTN8 first leg semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns as the game finished 1-1.

These results should give them hope of a brighter future, especially with the second leg against Sundowns coming before the end of the month.

In the early stages of his tenure as Amakhosi coach, Ntseki would no doubt want as much time as possible with his squad to keep building a solid unit and this international period gives him that opportunity to do so.

Only Pule Mmodi and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe have been away on international duty, representing Bafana Bafana and Botswana respectively.

"I think it's a plus for coach Ntseki, to keep the momentum and to work on the players. They have been getting positive results and having almost the entire squad during the international is good. Even though they would want to have more players on international duty, they have two and now it's about working with the rest of the players to ensure that they continue with their results after the international break. It's good for the team," former Amakhosi defender Mokete Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

As Amakhosi build and do well, more players could get an opportunity to represent their national teams. But for now, Ntseki will probably be delighted that he has his players at his disposal at such as a crucial part of the season.
