Eto'o Accused Of Match-Fixing In Cameroon

FECAFOOT president and Cameroon icon Samuel Eto'o has been accused of match-fixing top-division matches in his homeland.

According to Cameroonian news outlet Camfoot, the legendary marksman is believed to have orchestrated an elaborate plan to get Victoria United FC promoted to the nation's first division, the Championnat du Cameroun de football.

Audio recordings have reportedly emerged of the 42-year-old assuring Victoria president, Valentine Gwain, that he would assist his side's return to the nation's top flight by influencing referees.

"There are things we can do, but you have to be very discreet, brother," Eto'o tells Gwain in the recording, as per Sport.

"I haven't even had time to get home yet. I'm out, bro. I haven't had time to get home and work with the president – referring to the president of the Cameroonian referee association – because I can't call the refs directly and tell them to be careful. But I can work with the president."

It is claimed these conversations transpired after Victoria lost a match 1-0 in December 2022, a game Gwain interrupted in the 86th minute because of what he deemed frustrating officiating from the referees.

Eto'o and Gwain are alleged to have had further conversations in which the two-time treble-winner insists that Opopo would be promoted.

"Stay calm, we'll give you the three points and suspend the referee. But let me at least return to Cameroon," Eto'o reportedly adds in the recording.

"The 3rd arrived at night. So we'll see you at the office on Day 4. I'm going to rule out and disqualify this referee anyway.

"See you in the office on the 4th and that's how I'll summon the president of referees."

Eto'o allegedly goes on to explain that the key to successfully completing their mission is to have a good relationship with the president of the league.

"He has the power," the former Barcelona striker reportedly continues in the clip. "From there, he with his commissions will be able to suspend even the president of the referees.

"Our club, Opopo, must go up to the first division, that is our objective."
