Chiefs Wanted 60% Billiat Cut!

Kaizer Chiefs confirmed in a brief statement two weekends ago that they offered star attacker Khama Billiat a new contract to remain at the club beyond the expiry of his contract on June 30, but did not divulge further information on the issue. Now, the details of the club's offer have been revealed to Soccer Laduma!

The Soweto giants, via the aforementioned statement, confirmed that the dribbling wizard had not responded to any of the club's attempts to engage him over their proposed new deal.

"Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat's Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the Club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi. However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him. Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on 29 June and has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the Club," the statement read, in part.

Now, the latest news reaching the Siya crew's desk is that Amakhosi had offered Billiat a new deal, which included a pay cut of 60%!

This publication reported in May that there was talk of a possible 50% pay cut for the Zimbabwean-born star. However, it now appears that the club planned to further increase the cut to his salary. Given that the 32-year-old was on a reported salary of around R500 000 per month, it means his salary would have been slashed to R200 000 per month.

Billiat spent five years at the Glamour Boys following his highly-publicised transfer from Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2018. During that period, he made a total of 126 appearances, scoring 24 goals and conjuring 29 assists – a largely underwhelming return by his standards.
