Mokwena: I Have To Prove My Loyalty

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed what he "has grown to become" following confirmation of his new contract at the club.

The Siya crew reported earlier this week that Mokwena was on the verge of signing a new four-year contract, as his previous deal was expiring at the end of this month.

The young tactician is believed to have been negotiating with the club on the new terms in the closing stages of the season but negotiations were put on the back-burner to complete the season.

After the completion of the campaign, where Sundowns won the DStv Premiership title for the sixth year running with seven matches to spare and reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, there was a delay in the talks with Mokwena over the new deal.

On Tuesday evening, the Brazilians had officially confirmed that Mokwena finally put pen to paper.

"The love and the warmth I also receive from the supporters, as a servant of this football club, I've grown to love the club," Mokwena told Sundowns' media department.

"And I've grown to become, not only just somebody who has a number of years, number of hours. A lot of blood, sweat and tears.

"I now have to prove my loyalty and love for this football club in the big responsibility of leading the club in this moment, where I feel the privilege," he said.

Mokwena also reserved special praise to the supporters and says he feels very much part of their experience at the club.

"I also have to thank the supporters for loving me and making me feel appreciated and welcomed. When we lose, I suffer just as much, because I live and I breathe their emotions," he said.

"When we win, I'm just as happy. This is what makes this club a very special and important football club," he added.
