Ditlhokwe Breaks His Silence On Chiefs Move

Ditlhokwe Breaks His Silence On Chiefs Move

It has been six months since Thatayaone Ditlhokwe penned a pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs from SuperSport United, and now the Botswana national team captain has finally broken his silence on the move.

Ditlhokwe has been keeping his head down and putting in the same graft he did prior to the announcement of his move to Amakhosi in the 2023/24 season.

SuperSport, to their credit, went against what has become the norm in the local game by continuing to field the steely defender despite the fact that he was on his way out of the club - much to their own benefit as they finished third on the DStv Premiership standings for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

Now, having played his final game for the Tshwane-based outfit, the 23-year-old has broken his silence on the move and the expectations that come with playing for a club of Chiefs' magnitude.

"One thing I can tell you is that I am a national team player and captain. I've captained my national team at the age of 21, so I don't think there's more pressure that can come more than what I already passed through," he told journalists at SuperSport's annual awards ceremony.

"It's a normal challenge that every player goes through and for you to grow, you must have challenges. You need to be tested. It's a big test I know, but at the end of the day I will manage the way I always have," he continued.

While he remained cagey about his move to Naturena owing to his existing contract with Matsatsantsa which runs until 30 June, he has revealed his personal ambitions, with his sights set on Europe after featuring for Chiefs.

"As a player from Botswana, my ambition was to come and play in South Africa then do my level best and come out of South Africa, do my best in each and every game, and then leave South Africa, that's my aim," he explained.

Ditlhokwe made 27 appearances in all competitions in his final season with SuperSport.
