According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Bavarians have an agreement in principle with Thomas Tuchel to appoint him as the club's newest boss after deciding to part ways with Nagelsmann, with the final documents being prepared as of Thursday evening.

The former Hoffenheim boss is said to be yet to receive confirmation that his time at the club is over amid suggestions he found out that he was being replaced on social media.

The 49-year-old will be tasked with achieving a similar feat to the one he achieved during his time with Chelsea when he arrived in west London mid-season and led the Blues to their second UEFA Champions League title following a win over Manchester City in the final.

Die Roten have been drawn against City in the quarter-final of Europe's premier club competition this season and the first leg will reportedly be Tuchel's fourth game in charge of his new side as he will be looking to thwart Pep Guardiola's European ambitions once again.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach will also be looking to usurp his former side at the top of the Bundesliga table, with the record German topflight winners enduring a stuttering 2022/23 league campaign. Their most recent loss to Bayer Leverkusen came after Bayern were a goal up, ultimately leading to the end of Nagelsmann's tenure at the Allianz Arena.

Tuchel will welcome the league leaders to Munich in his first match as head coach, a game which kick starts a run of crucial games in the DFB Pokal, league and Champions League.
