Blues co-owner Todd Boehly's reign at Stamford Bridge started off in similar fashion to that of his predecessor Roman Abramovich as the American mogul fired Thomas Tuchel just seven games into the 2022/23 campaign.

The team had just been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League and were sixth in the Premier League when the German departed, but the club's new ownership were swift in finding Tuchel's replacement as they enlisted the services of the then-Brighton Hove Albion boss.

The Englishman, however, did not come cheap as the west London outfit forked out an eye-watering £21.5 million (R479 million) to the Seagulls so that the 47-year-old could take over in the English capital.

According to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, the fee is a world-record figure as far as managerial compensation is concerned and the reason for it being so high was due to Potter having previously been contracted at the Amex Stadium until 2025.

While Chelsea have struggled on the pitch since the former Swansea boss took over, Brighton have had no such problems as Potter's successor, Roberto De Zerbi, is leading the coastal side on a charge for European football.
