Official: FIFA Punish Senegal After World Cup Investigation

Following an investigation into Senegal after a breach of 2022 FIFA World Cup rules, the country's football federation has learned its punishment from FIFA.

FIFA Confirms Senegal Investigation Ahead Of England Clash

Earlier this week, it was revealed that football's governing body was investigating Senegal after Aliou Cisse attended a pre-match press conference alone, with FIFA rules stating a manager has to be accompanied by a player for interviews ahead of games.

Germany found themselves in a similar situation this past weekend and were subsequently fined for a breach of the rule after head coach Hansi Flick publicly admitted to taking the decision intentionally to avoid one of his players having to travel three hours.

The Senegalese Football Federation has since been slapped with same punishment, as confirmed in a statement from FIFA.

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Senegalese Football Federation with a fine in the amount of CHF 10,000 (R186 000) and a warning for breaches of article 44 of the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, article 2.7.2 of the Media and Marketing Regulations and article 8.5.3 of the Team Handbook," it read.

"The potential breaches relate to the mandatory press conference that took place on 28 November ahead of the Ecuador v. Senegal FIFA World Cup™ match."
