Bafana made four changes to the side that beat Mozambique, as Kgaogelo Sekgota was recalled alongside overseas-based, Fagrie Lakay, Luke Le Roux and Siyanda Xulu.

The hosts had a bright start as Teboho Mokoena came close to putting them ahead on 11 minutes with a swerving strike from range that drew an uncomfortable save from goalkeeper Hugo Marques.

With the game open, Bafana were punished from a set-piece nine minutes later after Christovao Paciencia gave Angola the lead with a glancing header in the box from a corner.

Hugo Broos' charges were fired up and restored parity just before the half-hour mark courtesy of a composed penalty by Zakhele Lepasa after Sekgota was fouled in the box from a high boot by Ambrosini Salvador.

South Africa controlled the game but nearly went behind from another set-play shortly before the interval after Buatu Jonathan's low header in the box was smothered by goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Bafana had a slow start in the second stanza, as Angola kept a good shape defensively and did not allow them time and space on the ball in the last third.

Broos eventually made a double change on the hour-mark, as Bongokuhle Hlongwane replaced Lakay while Miguel Timm came on for Themba Zwane.

The Palancas Negras were more threatening going forward, as Pedro Miguel had a big chance with 22 minutes remaining after beating the offside trap to go clear on goal but his low shot was thwarted by Williams in a one-on-one situation.

However, Bafana had the urgency and looked more lively in the latter stages after the introduction of attackers Monnapule Saleng and Khanyisa Mayo.

Angola were a threat on transitions with their own fresh legs on the park after substitute Deivi Vieira forced a save out of Williams from a looping strike in the box that was destined for the top corner.

Bafana had a golden chance to snatch the winner in the dying minutes after a cut-back by Mayo in the six-yard box but Hlongwane scuffed his shots wide from two attempts, as the game ended all square.

Here's how they lined up:

South Africa: Williams, Mobbie, Xulu, De Reuck, Modiba, Mokoena, Le Roux, Zwane, Lakay, Sekgota, Lepasa

Subs: Buthelezi, Kekana, Saleng, Hlongwane, Mothwa, Timm, Mayo, Aubaas, Blom
