However, following massive changes that took place at the Soweto giants, the veteran goalkeeper was handed a role in the club's DStv Diski Challenge team as he completed his transition from playing into coaching.

Having worked alongside former Pirates midfielder Joseph 'Duku Duku' Makhanya who is the club's DDC team coach this season, Sandilands has now left the club, sources have confirmed.

Sandilands, 39, has been with Bucs since 2017, having joined from Mamelodi Sundowns where he had been for close to eight years.

Sources have confirmed to the Siya crew that the Benoni-born ex-keeper is set to officially be announced as the goalkeeper trainer at Maritzburg United as part of the technical team changes that have seen Fadlu Davids join as the new head coach to replace John Maduka.

When the Team of Choice announced Maduka's exit at the beginning of the month, it was confirmed that the coach's entire back-room staff had also left.

Sources have confirmed that the Pietermaritzburg outfit is in the process of finalizing the new technical team, with Sandilands one of the new faces to be on the bench for the club in the coming matches, after the World Cup in Qatar.
