Two weeks ago, in a paper edition of Soccer Laduma, the center spread was a piece formed out of certain supporters' opinions regarding Kaizer Chiefs. One of the conclusions was that coach Steve Komphela should be given more time at the club. An SL supporter called the office and said we were way off with this opinion, so in the interest of fairness, here are his thoughts on the matter…
His name is Lefuna Mulaudzi and he believes that Komphela's arrival has seen the decline in certain players' performances.
Management must take into cognisance that supporters are used to success and they pay a lot of money to watch their teams play. Mr Motaung can also bring Messi but with Khomphela as a coach, Chiefs will still not win anything. Rebuilding a team like Chiefs, you need someone who is experienced and has a winning record. Comparing Khomphela to Pitso Mosimane is very insulting to the Sundowns coach. Pitso had a winning record with SuperSport before he joined Sundowns, and he knows how to handle the pressure. You don't need more than a year to prove yourself, more so at a team with cup records like Chiefs. Baxter won the league and a cup in his first season, came second in his second season and was just unfortunate to lose the league at the death with two points after a massive 11 points gap at the top, and he won another league title and a cup in his third season, going 19 games unbeaten. A team that went 19 games unbeaten cannot be bad overnight. Chiefs only lost Mashamaite, Masango and Nkhatha from last season. In came Gordinho, Abraw and Twala to fill those spaces left by the departed players, and they are quality players. It means the only bad thing at Chiefs is coach Khomphela. He has single-handedly destroyed Lebese, the boy who was marvel to watch under Baxter.
What do you think of this side of the argument?
